Motorcyclists are usually hyper-aware of their surroundings when they get on their bikes. This is because even the slightest of incidences can cause catastrophic injury to a motorcyclist. In comparison, motor-vehicle drivers do not face such a high risk of injury when involved in an accident. A group of motorcyclists got a big shock when they were driving down Connecticut’s Route 63 in recent months.

An incident occurred when a group of Connecticut motorcyclists, eighteen motorcyclists to be exact, were taking a leisurely ride down Route 63. Out of nowhere, a Ford Escape crossed over the center line into the group. Tragically, a young mother was killed in the motorcycle accident, and several other motorcyclists were injured. The woman driving the Escape, who has officially been charged with manslaughter, amongst other things, has previously been convicted of multiple DUIs.

According to witnesses, the accused negligent party was acting strangely just prior to the accident, like she was ‘on some type of drug’. Other witnesses at the scene saw the accused acting strange around some bushes just after the accident. Authorities discovered three wine bottles and a prescription bottle of pills with her name on it upon search of the area. Her BAC level after the crash was recorded at .09 which is just above the legal limit.

It is tragic what happened to the motorcyclists that day. The woman was mother to three young children, whose father was also injured in the accident. Nothing can compensate for the loss of a mother, however, there are ways to help with the financial aspects of the loss. Drunk or intoxicated driving is completely preventable in cases of fatal motorcycle accidents.
