The strength and vulnerability of the brain

| Jan 4, 2017 | Uncategorized |

Our readers in Connecticut probably know that the brain is the most complex part of a person’s body. Scientists and doctors are still baffled at its complexity and its ability to perform all of the tasks we take for granted on a daily basis. Thankfully, in most organisms with brains, the brains are well protected. For humans, we have an incredibly resilient and strong skull to protect the brain. But, that does not mean that the brain is completely invulnerable to injury. Any impact to the head can still cause a brain injury.

When something impacts the head, unless it is a something catastrophic like a fractured skull or the penetration of a sharp object, the injury is usually a result of the brain, which is essentially floating in fluids, bumping into the inside of a person’s skull. The severity of the injury is often specifically related to the severity of the impact.

It is not uncommon for brain injury victims to suffer from several debilitating conditions, whether it is reduced function of basic motor skills, the inability to experience each of their five senses or even the inability to properly communicate. This is why it is important for brain injury victims to understand that there may be legal options to secure financial compensation.

If you or someone you know has been the victim of a motor vehicle accident or premises accident that resulted in a brain injury, you may be entitled to compensation for your injuries. Compensation may include financial resources not only for pain and suffering, but lost wages, medical expenses and rehabilitation costs as well.
