An inside look at brain injuries

| Dec 16, 2016 | Uncategorized |

One of the most important and certainly the most complex organ in the human body is the brain. Any blow or impact with the head could lead to a brain injury. Serious brain injuries, often called traumatic brain injuries or TBI’s, can lead to temporary or even permanent disabilities to the victim. Severe brain injuries can even lead to brain damage, a coma, or even death.

While head injuries are common during athletic activities, most sports that could have head injuries take necessary precautions such as helmets and masks to minimize the impact to the head. In many states, laws are in place requiring motorcycle riders and even bicyclist, skateboarders and inline skaters to wear a helmet. But drivers and passengers in a car can be especially vulnerable to head injuries in the event of an accident. Although mandatory seat belts and air bags on most cars routinely prevent or minimize blows to the head during an accident, they are not fool proof, and head injuries are not uncommon in accidents.

It can be very stressful and trying times for a traumatic brain injury victim and the family of a victim. In addition to having to deal with the rehabilitation, medical expenses, doctor visits, and extended time away from work, the victim must also deal with the physical and mental effects of the injury itself.
