Tips that can help prevent a summertime motorcycle accident

| Jul 29, 2016 | Uncategorized |

Statistics indicate that there are far more motorcycles on the road during the summer months than at any other time of the year. However, the warm weather can also mean an increased chance for an accident. But, there are tips motorcyclists can follow in order to reduce their chance of a motorcycle collision during the summer.

One of the best steps a motorcyclist can take to help reduce their chance of a motorcycle accident is to perform some routine maintenance on their vehicle before they get out and ride, especially if they stored their motorcycle away for the winter. This includes checking and replacing the air filters and flushing the fuel system, particularly if they didn’t add a fuel stabilizer to their fuel system. Motorcyclists should also inspect their brakes and inspect the tread, pressure and wear on their tires. They should also check their fluid levels and check all lights and cables. It’s also a good idea to make sure that the battery is charged.

Another good idea is for motorcyclists to take a refresher driving course. This can help them practice effective driving skills, such as cornering and braking. It can also help them practice other emergency skills as well. If a motorcyclist is unable to take a refresher course, they should at least try to practice their emergency driving skills in an empty parking lot.

Another tip for motorcyclists is to remember that roads may not be in tip-top condition after a harsh winter. However, when a motorcycle accident occurs due to another party’s negligence or recklessness, a Connecticut motorcyclist who may have been injured may want to get more information in order to discover if there are legal avenues that should be explored.
