Motorbikes are designed for speed and speed only. Lacking many of the accessories of traditional motorcycles, these race style bikes are not designed to withstand an impact from a truck or automobile. However, certain circumstances can still bring these two types of vehicles close to each other. Unfortunately, a recent incident between a motorbike and a light truck has cost a Connecticut man his life.
State police officials have stated that a 23-year-old New Hartford man has died from injuries he suffered when his motorbike was struck by a light truck. The accident occurred at a Log House restaurant parking lot around 9PM. The driver of the Toyota Tacoma truck that struck the victim drove off after the motorcycle accident.
According to witnesses, the accident occurred when the Toyota Tacoma truck attempted to turn left into the parking lot of the restaurant. Once turning in, the truck struck the motorbike and then exited the parking lot. It proceeded to speed away from the scene of the accident and then turned onto Route 318. The Tacoma was damaged in the crash.
When authorities arrived on the scene of the accident, they found the motor bike operator suffering from severe injuries. He was transported to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. The victim was later flown by helicopter to Hartford Hospital. The man later succumbed to his injuries.
Police are asking the public to help them find the Toyota Tacoma truck that was involved in the accident. However, any Connecticut motorcyclist who has been struck and injured in a hit and run accident may want to speak with a personal injury attorney in order to find out if negligence played a part in the event.
