Tanker truck and two cars involved in crash

| Feb 18, 2016 | Uncategorized |

Tanker trucks are an important part of American business. Every day, these behemoths bring much needed fuel and other valuable chemical products to thousands of businesses throughout the country. However, these vehicles can sometimes present a very real threat to other motorists. Unfortunately, two Connecticut residents found out just how dangerous tanker trucks can actually be.

Local Connecticut authorities report that a fuel-carrying tanker truck driving on Route 8 in Litchfield was involved in an accident with two other cars. The accident occurred around 4:30 in the morning. As a result, two people were transported to Waterbury Hospital to be treated.

The incident began when one of the vehicles came to a stop in the middle of the highway. Police are not yet sure why the vehicle stopped. The tanker truck, which contained nearly 8,000 gallons of gasoline and diesel fuel, then approached and struck the vehicle. Right after the crash, the tanker truck erupted in flames. Fortunately, none of the diesel fuel or gasoline in the tanker caught fire.

Authorities also report that the truck’s own fuel tanks ruptured and caught fire. Firefighters had to spray the tanker with foam to contain the fuel that spilled from the truck’s tanks. Police did not indicate how the second vehicle was involved in the accident. Route 8 was closed in both directions between Exits 39 and 41 and did not open for nearly three hours.

Truck accidents can be extremely dangerous and must be avoided at all costs. However, any Connecticut resident who has been injured in a truck accident because of the negligence of a truck driver may want to speak with a personal injury attorney in order to find out if extenuating circumstances such as driver fatigue played a role in their accident.
