University of Connecticut bans hoverboards from all campuses

This year’s high tech must-have item, the hoverboard, has had its share of controversy since its introduction. There have been many reported incidents where they have caught fire while charging as well as several cases of riders being seriously injured while riding them. Recently, the state university of Connecticut issued new regulations concerning the use of these devices on campus.

The university has issued a statement banning the hoverboard from all of its campuses in the state. This ban applies to all campus buildings and all dormitories. Hoverboards cannot be stored or charged on campus and as before may not be driven on campus grounds. A university spokesperson indicated that while the boards’ popularity was soaring, very few university students were using them.

When campus authorities noticed the increase in the overall popularity of the hoverboards, they decided to look into their regulations to see if use of the device was covered by their existing laws and directives, even though there were only a few hoverboards on campus. However existing regulations only covered their use on campus sidewalks and roads. In their statement, the University cited a warning from the National Association of State Fire Marshals that indicated that a recent number of hoverboards had caught fire. With this announcement, the University joins more than 20 other colleges that have banned their use.

While riding a hoverboard can be fun, it can also potentially cause injuries. However, any Connecticut resident who has been injured while riding a hoverboard may want to speak with a personal injury attorney in order to discover if there are legal avenues that can be explored.
