Holidays traditionally mean packing up the family car and driving to another relative’s home for holiday dinner. But local authorities always caution drivers to be aware of the increased number of drivers on the road this time of year and to be extra cautious. Unfortunately, tragedy has struck two families in Connecticut after a recent fatal accident claimed two young lives.
Local Connecticut authorities report that a car accident near Bristol, Connecticut has killed two children and injured four others. The accident, which happened at around 12:30 AM was between a 2014 Nissan Sentra and a 2002 Ford Windstar.
A police representative stated that the accident occurred on Middle Street near the area of Pinebrook Terrace. They said that the Sentra was travelling north on Middle Street when it crossed over the yellow line and struck the Windstar head on. The Sentra had four occupants who all had to be extricated from the crushed vehicle. A four-year-old and a seven-year-old who were in the back seat were taken by emergency vehicle to Bristol Hospital where they were pronounced dead.
The mother of the children and the other passenger in the Sentra were both taken to hospitals in the Hartford area. The driver of the Ford Windstar and the front seat passenger were also injured in the crash. The driver was taken to a Hartford area hospital while the passenger was taken to a hospital in the Waterbury area. Police think that there may have been another passenger in the Windstar who ran away after the accident.
Fatal car accidents such as this reaffirm the importance of using extreme caution while driving during the holiday season. However, any Connecticut resident who has been involved in a serious accident or suffered a severe injury in an accident may want to speak with a personal injury attorney in order to determine if any legal avenues should be explored.
