Any automobile accident can result in serious injuries or even death, but an accident that involves a tractor trailer truck is almost always potentially more dangerous. That’s because a fully loaded tractor trailer weighs much more and therefore can produce more deadly force than a car. A recent truck accident in Connecticut has once again illustrated just how deadly this type of crash can be.
Two University of Connecticut college students were killed when a tractor trailer struck their car at an intersection in Columbia. The two students were passengers in the car. The driver of the car was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. The truck driver was also taken to a hospital, although his injuries were minor.
According to local authorities, the driver of the truck, which was owned by Penske Truck Leasing, was driving east on Route 66 when he hit the right side of the students’ car, which had entered an intersection. The vehicles then continued forward until they slammed into a utility pole. The force of the impact was severe enough to break the utility pole at its base. Police continue to investigate the crash.
One of the two UConn college students had just recently transferred to the college. She was majoring in pre-kinesiology. The other student was studying to be a teacher.
These tragic events illustrate the dangers that motorists face every day on the road. Connecticut residents who have been involved in truck accidents may want to speak with a personal injury attorney in order to understand the legal resources that are available to them.
