Who is responsible for a injuries in commercial truck accidents?

Four people were injured, including a 2-year-old boy, in Connecticut’s latest commercial truck accident. According to reports, an armored truck collided head-on with a car on Route 20 near Granby. The 24-year-old driver of the car is in stable condition at the Hartford Hospital, while his 2-year-old son was listed in critical condition at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center.

The cause of this particular truck accident is still under investigation. Depending upon the answer to that question, many may wonder who will be responsible for the injuries to the young man and his son.

Most vehicular accidents involve individuals driving their personal cars to and from work or some other personal activity. In these instances, the individual who caused the accident is liable and that driver’s insurance company generally picks up the financial slack.

A large number of accidents, however, are caused by commercial vehicles like the armored truck in this most recent incident. In these cases, the individual driver may be responsible, but so may the employer, the trucking company. In addition, companies that contracted with the carrier may also be liable under certain circumstances.

Determining which party to go after for compensation for injuries can be challenging. Getting the right information can help victims identify the proper parties and maximize the financial recovery. In most cases the case will proceed after an investigation of the crash and a determination of whether driver negligence, defective auto parts or some other factor caused the crash. From there, victims can determine the right approach in the unique circumstances of their case.
