Resources for Connecticut traumatic brain injury victims

Perhaps no injury has as wide reaching effects as a brain injury. In addition to the physical effects of a traumatic brain injury, victims must also cope with mental and emotional aspects of the incident.

Traumatic brain injuries (TBI) are generally caused by a blow to the head or a penetrating head injury that interrupt the normal function of the brain. Not all such bumps to the head result in severe TBIs. Injuries can be categorized as mild (a short-lived change in consciousness or mental status) or severe (extended unconsciousness or amnesia after an incident). Long-term effects of such injuries can include loss of movement and vision and impaired emotional functioning such as personality changes and depression.

Although one may think that a TBI is possible a rare event, this is not exactly the case. Traumatic Brain Injuries are the contributing factor in many deaths and situations of permanent disability across the nation annually. In fact, 2.5 million TBIs were reported in 2010, contributing to the deaths of more than 50,000 people.

These types of injuries are clearly serious and can present severe health risks. Tragically, a portion of these injuries may be caused by the negligence or actions of others, leaving effects on an individual that can last a lifetime, affecting not only themselves but their family as well. Seeking the assistance of an experienced attorney in such situations can help set forth a legal plan of action that will optimally end in the compensation for the injuries received. While some of these injuries may leave marks too deep to ever fully erase, compensation can provide a more comfortable way forward for all involved.
