Three people were taken to local area hospitals this past week after a fryer accident outside an East Hartford Cabela's. According to reports, two 16-year-old employees of the World's Foremost Outfitter were playing with a lighter outside the store near an adjacent donut truck. The lighter fell into the truck's fryer, splashing hot oil onto the employees and a customer.
One of the teenagers was seriously injured, sustaining first and second degree burns on his face and arms. He was rushed to Connecticut's Children's Medical Center. The other teenager and the customer were taken to the Hartford Hospital with less serious burns. More information on the accident was not immediately available.
Incidents like these are not entirely uncommon. Large retailers attract a lot of people. As a result, support businesses begin to pop up around the anchor store. This conglomeration of commerce attracts even more people. While good for local economies, the high density of people in these shopping centers raises the potential for injury.
From common parking lot accidents to more obscure incidents like this fryer mishap, patrons of large shopping centers are at risk for an injury. When one occurs, though, there may be questions of who was responsible.
Generally, a real property owner is on the hook for injuries sustained by visitors. Called premises liability, this question can get murky when there are multiple businesses and multiple individuals involved. Local Hartford attorneys can help victims analyze the information, investigate the claim, and recoup damages from the persons responsible.
