A seventh grade student at Suffield Middle School was killed last week as he rode to school on his bike. According to media outlets in Hartford, the boy was struck by a truck in front of the school on Mountain Road around 2:45 in the afternoon. He was rushed to the hospital, but later died of his injuries. The school department sent parents a letter informing them of the fatal accident and detailing the support services, which will be made available for other students traumatized by the tragedy.
The section of the road where the collision occurred was closed after the incident as police and investigators scoured the scene. While many accidents have curious causes, speculating the cause of this crash seems relatively straight forward.
Areas around schools generally have speed zones instructing drivers to slow down, especially in the morning and afternoon, while students are coming and going. Further, a driver’s proximity to a school places a heightened burden to watch out for nearby students.
These precautions are in place to prevent accidents, like these. The loss of a loved one, especially a child, is nearly impossible to endure. Subsequent litigation against the party or parties responsible for the death can be similarly difficult to endure.
Local Hartford attorneys have been through such difficult cases and know how to make the process easier on the family left behind. These experts have experience in wrongful death cases and know how to not only maximize recovery, but control the process in a way that allows the family to heal.
