Two people were injured recently after a motorcycle collided with a bicycle. The incident occurred near the intersection of Storrs Road and Timber Driver. According to reports, the bicyclist was airlifted to St. Francis Hospital in Hartford while the motorcyclist was taken to the Windham Hospital. The extent of their injuries was not immediately released.
The motorcycle accident is not the first one in Connecticut to require a victim to be transported by helicopter to one of Hartford’s more advanced hospitals. It may be the first one, however, where the victim was riding a bicycle.
While pedestrians and bicyclists pose little risk to passengers in regular vehicles, these external forces present a significant risk to motorcyclists. Swerving to avoid something that unlawfully enters the roadway can cause a motorcycle rider to lose control and fall. Even at slow speeds such an accident can result in catastrophic injuries.
Despite this traumatic result, it can be difficult for the victim to prove that a pedestrian or biker was actually the negligent party. This can have serious effects on determining liability and recovering compensation for things like medical expenses, lost wages and pain and suffering.
Complex and challenging accidents can be difficult for the victims. Presenting the facts about an accident to prove liability and how to ensure the victims receive maximum recovery is not an easy task. It is important to properly evaluate the likelihood of success, along with the potential monetary award. Pursing civil litigation has helped thousands of local residents get the help they need after an accident.
