A serious three-car accident recently occurred on Interstate 84 near Vernon, leaving 14 people injured. Three of those victims were critically hurt, and emergency personnel are expecting there to be many casualties. The wreck happened when a van slammed into a car and a truck, causing the van to flip over a guard rail and down an embankment. Emergency personnel shut down the Interstate for hours during their recovery efforts, which included help from eight emergency departments. Though the exact cause of the accident wasn't immediately clear, negligence cannot be ruled out.
Cases involving multiple vehicles can be complicated, but it is important to delve into the facts quickly and prepare an argument that supports the victim's best interests. In the tragic event that the victim dies, surviving family can continue the legal process by filing a wrongful death lawsuit against the negligent driver who caused the accident.
Facing the loss of a loved one can be the most difficult thing in life, especially when it is caused by an unexpected fatal accident. Family members may struggle to cope with the fact that they will never hear their loved one's voice again or celebrate holidays with that loved one. Also, the sudden loss of a family member can leave a family in a tough financial situation. Unexpected medical expenses and funeral costs can pile up, and the deceased's lost wages may make it difficult to make ends meet.
This is where a wrongful death lawsuit can be helpful. If a family can show a defendant's negligence caused the victim's death, compensation may be awarded. These recoveries may help cover financial losses as well as non-economic damages, such as pain and suffering and loss of companionship.
