A 22-year-old Unionville man was rushed to the St. Francis Hospital Monday after being thrown from his motorcycle. The motorcycle accident occurred on North Main Street in West Hartford.
According to reports from the scene, a vehicle driven by a 59-year-old woman crossed in front of the motorcycle after pulling out of a private driveway. The motorcyclist sustained injuries to his wrist and leg. The driver of the other vehicle, meanwhile, was uninjured. The 59-year-old was issued a citation by authorities for failing to grant the right-of-way.
Fortunately, the report did not mention a head or neck injury. Instead, it would appear that the victim sustained broken bones from falling off his bike. Given the circumstances, this type of injury may be the best case scenario.
Motorcycle accidents are often accompanied by catastrophic injuries. While broken bones generally heal in a fixed amount of time, head injuries can have lingering consequences. The resulting rehabilitation, medical expenses and reduced earning capacity can adversely affect victims and their families for years.
Given the stakes, victims of such incidents are urged to contact a local Hartford attorney. These professionals can help victims administer their claim for damages from the accident. From negotiating with insurance companies to filing suit for a monetary award, local lawyers will ensure that victims secure the amount of money needed to adequately compensate them for the injury sustained.
Without consulting such an expert, victims can lose out on tens of thousands of dollars in funds to which they are rightly entitled.
