East Hartford Police were called to respond to an accident involving a pedestrian on a recent Monday evening. The incident occurred around 800 Silver Lane, where a 51 year-old man was struck by an oncoming vehicle. The victim was rushed to the Hartford Hospital with serious injuries where he was later pronounced dead.
An accident reconstruction team was called in to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident. According to reports from the scene, no charges have been filed against the driver of the vehicle and early indicators suggest the pedestrian stepped into oncoming traffic.
This conclusion, however, is far from certain, and may never be convincingly decided. Fatal car accidents like this often come with this type of doubt and ambiguity. No one will know what the victim saw before he decided to cross the street.
As a result, the family members of the victim may be prevented from recovering compensation for any negligence that might have caused the death. Questions concerning causation may hinder or eliminate the chance to recoup an award for wrongful death. Victims of accidents must show others were at fault before they can collect an award. This can be challenging where the victim is unable to provide their side of the story.
Local Hartford attorneys, though, can help families investigate accidents and determine the responsible party. They can advocate for liability against the driver responsible and negotiate compensation with the driver's insurer. Experienced attorneys can ensure that any potential recovery is not only possible, but is also maximized. Therefore, victim's families are encouraged to explore all possible legal avenues.
