Middletown police officials are asking for the public's help in their investigation of a recent motorcycle crash. According to reports, a blue Honda Civic collided with a Harley Davidson near the local post office. The motorcyclist was injured in the crash and transported to the Hartford Hospital. The extent of his injuries was not clear.
Both vehicles appeared to be headed in the same direction when the accident occurred. Police released a statement requesting anyone who may have been in the area and witnessed the motorcycle accident to come forward. Though the investigation is still ongoing, the information that police do have suggests a failure to maintain proper lanes.
Most car accidents occur while a vehicle is turning into or crossing an intersection. Rarely do large vehicles get into serious accidents when they simply change lanes. Motorcycles, however, are more difficult to spot in a vehicle's blind spot. As a result, serious injury accidents can occur when a vehicle moves into a motorcyclist's lane.
This momentary lapse can have catastrophic consequences. Fatal motorcycle crashes or collisions causing permanent disability can happen when a larger vehicle sideswipes a bike. These traumatic incidents can be detrimental to those involved.
As a result, those affected by such accidents are urged to consider whether they are eligible to receive compensation for their losses. The exposure to lingering medical bills and lost wages may be too much to handle absent a damages award from the responsible party or parties. Motorcycle victim advocates can explain the post-accident process and ease the minds of those suffering from a crash.
