A motorcyclist was hospitalized in critical condition after an accident in Granby on Monday. According to reports, the man's motorcycle collided with a car on Granville Road near Northwoods Drive around 6:00 p.m. He was then transported by LifeStar to Hartford Hospital with what authorities were describing as life threatening injuries.
The North Central Accident Reconstruction Team was called in to assist with an investigation into the cause of the motorcycle accident. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the Granby Police. A detour was quickly set up to divert traffic around the scene, but authorities asked drivers to avoid the area Monday night or expect delays.
The investigation team will be charged with determining the circumstances surrounding the accident. In the end, they will likely opine on who was the negligent party, the motorcyclist or the driver of the car. Unfortunately, since videos of accidents are rare, they cannot just refer to the replay.
Instead, they compile witness statements, tread marks, impact marks and other data to try and recreate the catastrophe. They use these fragments to try and explain why the incident occurred. It is an inexact science that can leave some wanting more.
Motorcycle accident victims are especially at the mercy of such experts. A minor misperception could alter the opinion and damage the victim's chance to recover for his or her injuries. This is why victims are encouraged to contact local Hartford attorneys. These professionals can hire independent experts to help victims show their side of the story, and explain why they are entitled to an award from the negligent party.
