A two year-old Hartford girl sustained serious head injuries after falling out of a second story window on Capital Avenue. According to reports, the girl fell 18 feet onto a paved driveway that caused her brain injury. She was rushed to the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center where she was later listed as in critical but stable condition.
The Lieutenant in charge of the major crimes unit was dispatched and reported that the crime scene division was conducting an investigation. The Department of Children and Families was also notified of the incident. Despite the innuendo, the ultimate cause of the girl’s fall was not immediately known.
The truth is injuries like this happen every day. Sometimes they are honest accidents and other times someone is at fault. Determining the culprit, however, may not always be that easy. For instance, the child may have fallen as the result of a defect in the window or someone else’s negligence. If that was the case, she would be entitled to accident compensation.
This is an especially serious issue when brain injuries are involved. Head injuries can lead to years of rehabilitation or permanent disability. Whether it is medical expenses or lost earning capacity, damages for a traumatic brain incident can be extraordinary. As a result, victims of accidents involving head injuries are encouraged to understand their legal rights.
By investigating the cause of the accident, whether on the roads, at work or at home people may find that they are entiled to compensation. While this money won’t make the physical recovery easier, it will provide the financial support necessary for people to focus on their recovery.
