Tubing accident injures 5 southwest of Hartford

| Jan 16, 2013 | Uncategorized |

A tubing accident at a Connecticut ski area sent five people to the hospital with a variety of injuries. According to reports, a group of six friends were being pulled up the hill by a cable when their inner tube suddenly broke free. The tube careened down the mountain and collided with the base of the lift. Five of the six individuals were transported to local hospitals.

At least two of the victims’ injuries were severe enough that they required an extended hospital stay. Though there was no history of equipment safety issues or dangerous property at this ski lodge, the accident is currently being investigated.

Businesses, like a ski resort, have a duty to keep their property safe and to protect visitors from injuries. If operators or owners of a public place know there is a risk of danger to patrons on their property, they have a duty to make repairs or at least warn of the possible safety risk.

From inadequate security to poorly maintained equipment, every business owner’s property is susceptible to unique problems. While these deficiencies are sometimes apparent and avoidable, more often than not they are hard to identify if the property owner doesn’t remain vigilant. Nevertheless, owners and operators of public properties have a responsibility to keep visitors safe.

When victims are injured by dangerous property conditions, their lives can be turned upside down. As you and your loved ones are searching for answers after a serious accident on property with public access, it may be helpful to know where to turn to and what to do next. If an investigation reveals that a property owner neglected his or her duty to preserve the safety of others, then the option to pursue a personal injury claim may be on the table.
