Driver flees scene after fatal car crash claims life of woman

When people are on the road in Hartford and the surrounding area, whether it's as a driver, a motorcyclist, a bicyclist or a pedestrian, there is always the risk of an accident. In the worst of circumstances, this can evolve into a wrongful death incident. These fatal accidents invariably come as a shock to the family of the decedent. They might not know what to do in the immediate aftermath, and it's imperative that they keep in mind that a fatal car crash must be fully investigated to determine what happened and why.

A 51-year-old woman was killed in a fatal car crash that became a hit-and-run when the other driver fled the scene. In addition, it is believed that the same vehicle was involved in another, earlier, accident. Police and rescue crews were called to the accident involving the woman at 8:12 p.m. The vehicle was described as a red or maroon 1997 Ford F-150 pickup truck. There was a temporary registration on its rear window. Witnesses stated that the male driver was wearing a backwards baseball cap. No other information regarding his appearance was provided.

Many issues come to the forefront when there is a wrongful death incident. The person who died could have been the breadwinner in the household, a stay-at-home parent, a young person just beginning his or her life, or a beloved grandparent. Regardless of who it was, the loss of a loved one can have a profound influence on the lives of the rest of the family. In addition to the emotional issues, there might also be financial problems that result from the death. Funeral costs, lost income and other expenses are likely to arise. Insurers are most commonly interested in keeping their costs in line and will likely try to settle a case prior to a large award of compensation being made. It's key that the family understand how to pursue litigation.

In this incident, the search for the driver of the pickup truck is ongoing, as the family of the woman who died deals with their loss. Considering the circumstances and that it's still unknown who committed the alleged act, it's important that the woman's family be prepared to move forward with a legal filing as soon as the driver is caught. For assistance, they may want to consider discussing the matter with a legal professional experienced in wrongful death.
